Wednesday, January 30, 2008
Nice way to start the second half
A hard fought battle that made its way into overtime where our boys finally put the game away and beat the Los Angeles Kings 3-2, no tie here. With the win and a Devils lost the Flyers have seized control of first place all by their lonesome with a game in hand. Keep it up guys.
Next game isn't until Thursday when they take on the hated New York Rangers, lets keep up the intensity and skate them right out of the building.

Highlights of the 2008 All-star game
Mike Richards netted an assist for the only Flyers point in the All-Star game. I didn't get a chance to watch the game but it looked exciting from the highlights. Did you miss it also?
Here's the highlights:
Eric Staal was named MVP
I also missed the skills challenge which I was bummed about. Out of all sports this one is my favorite.
Now lets get ready for the second half of the season, to start it off, our boys are in first, lets keep it up.

First Place baby!
From worst to first. Last year they were the worst team in the NHL. Today they are tied with the hated New Jersey Devils for first place in the Atlantic Division with one game in hand. What has made for such a quick turn around? The have gotten back to their roots. Broadstreet Bullies all the way!

A little Rocky to get you pumped
I don't know what it is I'm in a Rocky mood today, maybe its in anticipation of Rambo tomorrow? I can't wait. I don't expect much but I still think it will be entertaining.
When I was a little boy I used to run around the house singing this song. I have to find the tape and when I do, I will try and post it.
Lets hope they rebound from that lousy showing against the Devils and destroy the Penguins tonight.

I need some inspiration
So it looks like they failed a major test tonight against the hated Devils so I have to go back to the fault 34 years.
Amazing this still gives me goose bumps.
Kate Smith gives an incredible performance of God Bless America before the 6th game of the 1974 Stanley Cup Finals in Philadelphia. The Flyers were almost unbeatable when this song was played before games. And with Kate Smith there in person, the Bruins had no chance. Bobby Orr and Phil Esposito show her great respect and shake her hand after the stiring performance.

A fan fights Tie Domi, big mistake
This was a couple of years ago, this stuff only happens in Philly. You got to love it. This guy is in for a heap of trouble, Tie Domi is a bad ass.

Lighting strikes once, Hextall twice
The first goalie to ever score a goal in a game. I know he had at least two maybe three, but I can't remember. Anyone?

Bobby Clarke a Broadstreet Bully for life
It appears as if the Flyers are returning to the glory days of the mid 70's when they were known as the hated Broad Street Bullies. Broad Street is the name of the street the stadium is located at. Every team in the league was terrified to play them. They beat you every way you could possibly think of including physically scarring the crap out of every opponent they faced. Besides being physical brutes they could play some hockey, they hold a record in professional sports for most games played without a loss at 35 games. that's mighty impressive.
While last season the Flyers were the worst team in the league, they are doing much better this season and part of that may be do to them playing like bullies. A little dirty at times but hey sometimes that's the way hockey is played. In a slew of incidents this year for some cheap shots the latest happening against the Toronto Maple Leafs, a Flyer sucker punched another player.
What did Bob Clarke VP of the team and former Broad Street Bully have to say about it?
He loved it!

Favorite Flyers moment, Hextall jumps Chelios
I completely remember this one like it was yesterday. It was the end of the playoffs for my Flyers as they lost in six games to the Montreal Canadiens. Earlier in the series, Chelios took a cheap shot at one of the Flyer, I can't remember who at this time, but the guy got really injured. So at the end of this game Chelios was taunting Hextall and he took it upon himself to show Chelios what what. I love this.
Hextall got like a 12 game suspension to start the next season. It was totally worth it!
